Timor Leste schools lead the world with Permaculture in the Curriculum

Timor Leste has made the teaching of permaculture a compulsory subject in the primary school curriculum. Under the curriculum endorsed by the Timorese government in 2015, all primary schools are required to teach permaculture to students in Grades 3 to 6.

It’s a story that started 15 years ago, and by telling it we can hopefully provide some knowledge and inspiration for others wanting to integrate permaculture techniques into developing countries.

In 2010, Lachlan McKenzie was awarded his Permaculture Diploma at the Australian Permaculture Convergence in Kuranda, North Queensland, for his substantial body of work in East Timor and Indonesia.

Change the World
Change the World is supporting Ego Lemos with his endeavour to take young Timorese and instil in them a passion for the land and a drive to make Timor-Leste a better place fore themselves and their children. The project is known as PermaYouth.
